i don’t know what to do with my life

I don’t know what to do with my life.

Hey guys Jay here and I want to talk to you about something that I dealt with in my 20’s. I’m sure we have all had a time in our lives where we say to ourselves “I don’t know what to do with my life”. I had this moment when everything was going well for me. I had a career, a great family that supported me, a great apartment and a puppy but I felt like there was something missing. I took some time to think about what a really wanted. People call it soul searching I called it the second phase of jay. Now of course what I wanted and what you would want can be totally different. I wanted financial peace and freedom. Financial peace to me was not having to worry about money as part of my decision making. A peace was the ability to enjoy the moments my life had to offer.

Seems like a large dream for a 20-year-old but is it really? There were 2 things I had on my side TIME and drive. It was just me in my apartment in queens. I took this I don’t know what to do with myself very seriously. I started to dream about what it would feel like if I could just go and do something I loved for a week without any worries. I then got stuck in a rut of where do I start. I asked around and people would crap all over my vision. I asked where should I start? How can I accomplish what I really wanted. I had no one to really turn to at the moment. I started to get scared to ask people for advice I was so sick and tired of having my dreams thrown away like they were nonsense. Non-believers would pop out of the wood work, I had to buckle down and do this myself. what did these people have to do with what I wanted? That’s why I am talking about this topic. Don’t let people crush what you really want. Be stronger and resist the temptation of giving up. You have to be persistent and intentional for what you really want. This goes across the board for everything, bettering yourself, your financial picture your career your relationships.

Any of this sound familiar? It’s like when you go to a so-called friend and open your heart to them and they have to one up your story. They were either in the same or even worse scenario. That’s when I realized I had to make a huge change. I had to start selecting what influences I allowed around me and who I spoke with about my dreams. I found people who I deemed successful either monetarily or in their lives. My criteria will be different from yours but it’s a basis to start.

Here is where the transition started. I started reading more. I took time out of my day to make sure I was growing my brain. I read on the toilet and before I went to bed. I wanted to sleep on the ideas I was putting into my head of how I can better myself. I would have dreams about what I was reading, and ideas started to flow. I was going to take my time to create a better me. I turned my car into a library I used books on tape or cd back then. Yes, I am showing my age now you can just get audible and have the books stream from your phone. I found comfort in my brother who was moving up the corporate chain like a rocket. Who knew the person that toughened me up as a kid with all the fighting and arguing would be an ally? We would have talks about books we read. We started a fitness and exercise plan. I was transforming what I wanted to be.

It’s not an overnight process this transforming yourself. I believe in a system that was told to me by an old manager. In your twenties you find what you want to do, in your thirties you learn how to do it and do it well and in your forties, you hit your stride and become successful at what you like to do. But when you start in your twenties save money like you’re in your fifties. Of course you can speed up this process it all lies within you. You have to hold yourself accountable and keep moving forward. This started making sense now that I am in my forties. I don’t know what to do with my life starts to show its face.

So lets break it down to the simple science of life. What do you really want to do? Think about it. Really dig deep find things you love. See if you want to take the time out and master those things. It takes 6000 hours to become a master at something is it worth that time.

Save like you are in your fifties. This only has one meaning save your money. Invest it whenever you can. We have all heard stories of how a little money now is a lot of money later. Why do we ignore that so much. Compounding interest is one of the greatest money making tools we have ever created. If you want to learn how it works check out my blog about it at mindyourcents.com. starting to save in your twenties can mean the difference between 100k or 1 million dollars.

Now in your thirties you can start mastering your craft of what you really want to do. Here’s where you “I don’t know what to do with my life” starts manifesting. It can be anything from brick laying to landscaping. I chose advertising. My father was in it for 47 years before he retired and I was intrigued by marketing. I learned everything about advertising even with my crappy artistic skills learned how to make ads. They weren’t good but I learned it. I continued to read more books to grow myself. now I wasn’t perfect I still acted like a typical young adult and went out and dated. I found the more I got out there into the world the more I found I wasn’t the only one that questioned I don’t know what to do in my life.

The next part is an unusual take but I found giving back was a huge step in my progression to finding what to do in my life. Think about this have you ever helped someone in need like change a tire or carry something for them. It makes you feel good doesn’t it. Gives you a little pep in your step and brings a smile to your face. Imagine if you saved money to help a cause you really believe in and you can help many more people. That’s a way of finding meaning in your life. It all comes down to following your path of what you love.

Hitting your stride! This is when the plan comes together all the forces working against you now turn in your favor. Not only because your experience can guide you but what you have put into your mind also steers the right course for you. Law of attraction starts playing a huge key. Need to know more about law of attraction read my blog here.

Now in your stride you can start making the right adjustments. You know how to find the right people to work with and talk with. You start weeding out the bad and nurturing the good. Your money has been growing and you have a really nice nest egg. You start transforming into the person you wanted to be. You finally have figured out what to do with your life. The answer to this question is simple live the life you want to. Your life is based on your decisions you have made and what you have done with your time to get the life you want.

You want to be wealthy start investing.

You want to be successful define what success is and teach it to yourself.

You want more friends start building relationships.

What you want will take sacrifice. Sacrifice is also another way of showing love.

Love your life love yourself and love the journey!

A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. Take the first step and follow along.
